Conference 2019

In recent years, Africa’s growth story has expanded beyond the extractive industries, creating future possibilities in many sectors. For many companies, this is a future worth investing in, but it is not without risks and challenges. On-the-ground knowledge is key to capturing this business potential, as is a nuanced outlook on the specific countries where the best opportunities lie.

This year’s conference theme “Growth in Africa: The Opportunities and Challenges Today and into the Future” proposes to minimize the rhetoric and showcase the concrete ways in which African business leaders, innovators, and policy makers are responding to the need for sustainable economic development on the continent.

In addition to showcasing the potential for business opportunities in established industries such as infrastructure, energy, finance and agriculture, to name a few, this year’s event will leverage the unique position of Cambridge as Europe’s start-up capital to connect with exciting Africa-focused start-ups and discuss the emerging trends in this sector.

The 2019 Business in Africa Conference will be held over one-and-a-half days to allow for more in-depth discussions, thematic panels, and networking possibilities. The conference will start on the evening of April 26th and run for the entire day on April 27th at the University of Cambridge.

Keynote Addresses: There will be two keynote addresses delivered by distinguished African speakers; following each keynote address, the speakers will engage in a brief question and answer session with the audience.

Panel Discussions: There will be a series of thematic panels on various topics and distinguished experts to lead the discussions. The concept and themes for the panels will center around the challenges and opportunities presented by steady growth sectors, such as real-estate and infrastructure, and emerging sectors, such as tech and alternative finance.

Gala Dinner: There will be a pre-conference gala dinner held at the historic Old Hall at Queens' College, Cambridge on the evening of Friday April 26th. The gala dinner will offer an opportunity for attendees to network with the speakers and other delegates, while enjoying dinner in a unique and truly exceptional venue.
